Responding to the latest NHS Dental Statistics for England Professor William Saunders, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, said;
“This latest data makes for worrying reading with only 56% of adults in England visiting the dentist in the two years preceding March of this year. Whilst the percentage for children was higher at close to 70%, this is still alarmingly low.
It is important that everyone has regular checks, ideally every six months. Regular checks help maintain a good level of oral health, making more invasive treatments less likely in the future, so we ask that everyone make booking an appointment a priority if they have not already done so in 2016.”
The data is contained in the 2015-16 Third Quarterly Report published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre on 9 June.
